ABSTRACT
TO REDUCE RADIOACTIVE WASTE BY APPLICATION OF REUSE OR RECYCLE OF SPENT AND DISUSED SEALED SOURCE THROUGH REGULATORY CONTROL OF NUCLEAR ENERGY IN INDONESIA, The growth of the use of sealed source which is more and more from year to year and kinds of sealed source which is used also various enough, it may cause radioactive sealed source-waste that generated by user in radioactive substances and radiation facility also increasing, both in quantities and implications as well. During in use, each sealed source will change to be in 2 (two) conditions: (1) spent sealed source or (2) disused sealed sources that are caused by certain factors and that sealed source will be a radioactive waste probable disused sealed radioactive source-DSRS before it is declared as a radioactive waste (Waste). Minimization principle (reduce) the volume and the number of radioactive waste can be executed through the application of reuse and recycle of sealed source in the medical, industry and research. Reuse and recycle policy for spent and disused sealed sources not already specified yet. Reuse of spent sealed source can be applied only for the use of which is from the medical field for radiotherapy, namely the use of a teletherapy Co-60 becomes a calibration facility. Recycle of a spent sealed source can be performed for a radioactive source with high relative activity and long half-life, besides that recycle can only be executed by the manufacturer. To avoid legal conflicts, therefore in the amendment Government Regulation No.27 Year 2002 on Management of Radioactive Waste, there will be a recommendation for a new scheme in the management of radioactive waste to facilitate the application of the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle.
